What is an essential oil exactly?
Why should you care about essential oils? What are essential oils? Essential oils are complex structures of hundreds of different chemicals. They are the fluid inside a tree or plant that is essential for it to live...some refer to it as the plant’s “immune system." The molecules that make up these oils are tiny, and can penetrate every cell in the human body. They are highly concentrated because it requires a large volume of plant material to produce small amounts of a distilled essential oil (i.e., 5,000 pounds of rose petals to produce 1 kilo of rose oil).
So why should you care about plant molecules entering your body? The essential oil of a plant offers tremendous balancing affects on the human body. In fact, different plants and trees have very distinct benefits. For example, lavender is known to support the nervous/cardiovascular systems, hair/skin, helps maintain cholesterol levels, etc. The oils were created to help our bodies achieve and maintain a healthier existence.
Many modern, over-the-counter drugs try to recreate what is found in nature. These are “synthetics.” Essential oils and plant extracts have been woven into history since the beginning of time and are considered the missing link in modern medicine. By going “back” to essential oils….we are returning to the pure, undiluted source. Essential oils are a healthy alternative to common drugs. They are what many drugs wish they could be. However, nature can’t be mimmicked 100% and our bodies cannot fully process synthetics. This means they remain in our bodies…..which is not good!
There are so many different uses for the oils! Using essential oils is a great way to reduce your exposure to toxins/harmful chemicals. We are just now starting to see all the side effects from over-the-counter meds and the list is crazy.
